DUBB

“First words was momma ima be a star, ima buy us a house so we won’t live in cars.” Although a lyric to one of Dubb’s recent songs, it spoke the truth. Born April 21, 1987 at 3:33am, to Doreatha and Roosevelt White, Quincey White already had a strong heart. Born premature ; 3 pounds light and diagnosed with spinal meningitis, doctors said that he wouldn’t make it. But baby Quincey held on. After months in the hospital, Quincey was stronger than ever. His mother called him, her special child. Growing up in the streets of Los Angeles, it was hard for the White family. Being the second child of five, Quincey felt it was his responsibility to take care of his family. During the time he was in middle school, Quincey at a young age was faced with a harsh reality. “… my Moms didn’t get along with my Dad’s mother, (so what), so we had to move to a motel but I kept my head up cuz we would prevail.” (Dubb – I Need Ya). Moving from motel to motel, car to car, it was hard to swallow the fact that he did not have one place to call home. For a boy his age, it was hard not being able to have friends over. Not only was it hard but it was embarrassing when one boy from his school found out that he lived in a motel. “Aye you live in that motel huh? I seen you getting ice the other day” the boy said while other classmates joined in laughter. It was humiliating and hurtful but Quincey held his head up and stayed strong. Every day he went to school not knowing where his next meal was going to be or whether he would have clean clothes for the day, but those worries did not stop little Quincey from pressing on. When his father’s mother passed away, she gave the house to her son and his family. There Quincey would learn of his talents. During his years at Inglewood High School, Quincey was a star on his basketball team. Although he was not so tall, the boy could run and had one of the best jump shots at Inglewood. So good at it that he even shot the winning shot at the buzzer taking his team on to the next level. However that wasn’t Quincey’s dream. Music was. It was nothing that was forced. It was nothing that could be learned, it was his passion, and it was air that he breathed… the blood running through his veins. It was like a drug and Quincey was addicted. Although he started at 17, by the time he was 19 Quincey had made a name for himself, Dubb. He then made his own label known as Hoodz Finezt. With his team behind him, Dubb would be known as the Mixtape King, the sickest rapper to step out of South Central after Ice Cube. Now at 22, Dubb has made over nine mixtapes with one coming soon. His mixtapes, Mr. White, South Centralz Own, South Centralz Own Pt. 2, Hoodz Finezt Radio, Mr. White Ch. 2, I Run Rap, South Centralz Own Pt. 3, I Run Rap Pt. 2 and itzDUBB (which has not yet been released). He has been featured over 100 mixtapes and has worked with artists such as, Game, Dolla (R.I.P.), Hot Dolla, TK, Jay Rock, and Ya Boy. His main influences are Tupac and Ice Cube as well as other artists such as Nas, T.I and Jadakiss. Quincey White aka Dubb is known for his realistic lyrics and his way of grabbing the listener through his music. Music is not only his job, it’s his passion.
